Careers at Hunter Valley Psychology and Wellbeing

Looking for a different kind of private practice?

If you have been thinking about private practice, considering a change or simply wondering whether there might be a different way to work as a psychologist, we would love to have a conversation.

Hunter Valley Psychology and Wellbeing was created with a simple belief: psychologists do their best work when they feel supported, trusted and genuinely enjoy coming to work.

After years working in private practice across assessment and therapy, Clinical Psychologist Karen Watson established Hunter Valley Psychology and Wellbeing with a clear vision—to create a practice where high-quality client care, professional autonomy and genuine support for psychologists go hand in hand.

As our referral relationships have continued to grow, so has demand for our services. We are now looking forward to welcoming other psychologists to our practice.

What it is like working with us

We know that every psychologist works a little differently, and we think that is something worth celebrating. We pride ourselves on creating an environment in which psychologists can thrive, wherever they are in their careers.

Whether you are early in your career, taking your first steps into private practice or bringing years of experience, we hope HVPW can be a place where you continue building a career that is rewarding, sustainable and enjoyable.

We genuinely enjoy seeing emerging psychologists grow in confidence. We also value providing an environment where experienced psychologists can continue doing outstanding work in a supportive, low-stress practice.

Rather than expecting everyone to fit the same mould, we enjoy helping psychologists build the kind of career that is right for them.

Whether you are looking for one or two days each week or hoping to establish a full-time private practice, we would love to support you in building a sustainable caseload that reflects your interests, strengths and professional goals.

Our referrals are diverse, with approximately 65% involving adults and 35% involving children and adolescents, together with growing demand for couples work. Wherever possible, we thoughtfully match referrals with each psychologist’s interests and experience.

We believe psychologists do their best work when:

  • They have time to build meaningful therapeutic relationships.
  • They are trusted to make clinical decisions.
  • They are supported by colleagues without feeling micromanaged.
  • They can develop areas of practice they are genuinely passionate about.
  • Administration does not get in the way of good clinical work.

These values have shaped every part of Hunter Valley Psychology and Wellbeing.

Who we would like to meet

We are interested in hearing from psychologists who enjoy thoughtful, evidence-based practice and value working alongside supportive colleagues, including:

  • Clinical Psychologists
  • Registered Psychologists
  • Clinical Psychology Registrars
  • Provisional Psychologists completing an approved internship program

Whether your professional interests are broad or highly focused, we would love to hear about them. We see our role as supporting psychologists to develop the work they find most meaningful, rather than asking them to fit into a predetermined role.

We would love to hear from you

If this sounds like the kind of practice you have been looking for, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Even if you are curious about private practice but not quite ready to make a move, we are always happy to have a confidential conversation over coffee.

Please send your CV or contact us to arrange an informal chat.
